One of the world’s premier prize competitions, hongkong prize is open to researchers worldwide who have made scientific discoveries that have had a significant impact on society. The winners not only reap monetary benefits, but also gain access to Hong Kong’s premier research facilities, which can help expand their career prospects.
The annual Hongkong prize ceremony honors a diverse array of notable individuals and organizations, from a young man using technology to assist homeless individuals to a professor who created liquid biopsy technology that helps doctors more quickly diagnose cancer. In addition to awarding monetary prizes, the event is an opportunity for the community to celebrate these individuals and their work.
This year’s HK Prize theme is “Colours of Humanity,” and encourages artists to explore the different aspects of global evolution: socially, culturally, technologically and environmentally. This year’s shortlisted works are varied, ranging from art installations that depict human rights issues to works that highlight diversity, equity and inclusivity.
In order to increase the level of interest and participation in the Hong Kong prize, the organizers have increased the total amount of money that will be awarded to the winner of each category. This is in line with the organisers’ aim of making it a more international contest that attracts more local and overseas talent.
The judges are committed to conducting a fair and impartial review of each nomination. They will make independent judgments and objective evaluations based on the quality of each candidate’s scientific and technological innovation, its transformation and its social or economic value. In addition, the judges will ensure that the review process is free from sponsorship and special committee influence.
BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize (the PRIZE) is an international scientific and technological awards programme sponsored by Bank of China Hong Kong Limited. It aims to reward scientific and technological innovation achievements, promote their application, and foster a spirit of entrepreneurship in Hong Kong, the world’s hub for business.
To support the PRIZE, BOCHK has set up a specialised team to carry out a comprehensive and professional review of each nominated submission. The team consists of scientists, business people and legal professionals. Their roles include examining each nomination, suggesting important scientific research fields for the PRIZE and verifying and approving the review results.
Travelers interested in the HK Prize can enter the contest starting March 1 by visiting the World of Winners splash page. Tickets will be allocated in three waves: first for residents of Southeast Asia, then mainland Chinese and finally for travelers from other parts of the world. In addition to the monetary prize, winners will have an incredible opportunity to experience Hong Kong’s spectacular scenery and diverse cultures.
