The Grand Lake Stream Folk Festival returns after a 2-year hiatus, July 30-31
GRAND LAKE STREAM – Tents will be pitched soon and the ball diamond will be bustling in the village of Grand Lake Stream. On Saturday and Sunday, July 30 and 31, over 50 of the Northeast’s finest folk artists and artisans and an exceptional array of talented musicians will come together for the 26e Annual Grand Lake Stream Folk Art Festival. After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, local organizers once again organized a full weekend of activities for the whole family, with wonderful music, folk art, food and fun. ! The festival runs daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Live musical performances are on stage in the tent, rain or shine, and include Maine’s top American, Celtic, bluegrass, folk and jazz roots musicians. Local favorite ukuleles, The Grand Lake Stream Strummin’ Wildcats, will perform on both days.
Traditional and contemporary folk art and crafts in a wide variety of mediums will be displayed for sale by artists and artisans from across Maine and beyond, many of whom will demonstrate their talents.
Talented quilters from The St. Croix International Quilters will be at the festival showcasing a variety of quilts made by members from both sides of the Canada-US border. The annual quilt raffle to benefit the festival will feature a unique design by local quilt, Susan Plachy.
There will be an interpretive exhibit featuring locally built Grand Lake canoes. Children will be entertained throughout the weekend in the ever-popular arts and crafts tent, with projects such as felted birdhouses and gyotaku, Japanese fish print, on T-shirts.
Historians will enjoy the Memorial Tent with exhibits of archival and heirloom photographs chronicling the history and heritage of Grand Lake Stream and its people.
Breakfast, lunch and treats are served daily in the food tent, with local food vendors offering burgers, wood-fired pizzas, lobster rolls, Cajun gumbo, shortcakes with strawberries, and more!
