Di Martino on China’s role in Venezuela’s collapse
In this special episode, we met Daniel Di Martino, founder of the Dissident Project. Its goal is to educate American high school students about the dangers of socialist regimes. How does the Chinese communist regime relate to what it experienced in Venezuela and what it sees playing out here in America?
Di Martino said that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is involved in the collapse of Venezuela. He said, “When [Hugo] Chavez started printing all that money that created the inflation – because he wanted to spend it all on social and government jobs and things like that – who do you think gave him a lot of money? It is China’s state-owned banks that have lent billions of dollars to Venezuela. And who do you think sold weapons to Venezuela? It was the Chinese. Who do you think helps them with intelligence in Venezuela? It’s the Chinese.
He added: “All these tyrannical regimes help each other. Iran is involved, Russia is involved, Cuba is involved, China is involved, everyone is a team. And what we need Americans to understand is that we need democracies and free countries to be a team against them. Otherwise, we are all divided and they will win.
We also caught up with John Mills, a retired colonel and former director of cybersecurity at the Department of Defence. He talks about what recent TikTok headlines reveal about the Chinese regime’s cyberattacks on America and what it means for each individual.
Mills said, “TikTok has always represented a tentacle of the CCP, essentially establishing a digital twin of all of us. It’s a great platform for collecting data of all our behaviors, of our personalities. And they basically use it to populate their big data, and then their ability to do big data research and analysis to create a digital twin of all of us – our interests, what we like to watch, how we behave, how we react when we look at it, et cetera, et cetera. It is very worrying.
TikTok “should be seen as a platform, a place, a social media site that is no good. It’s that simple. It’s not something that people…it’s a vision of our lives that we give to a hostile foreign power. If something like this existed during the Cold War legacy, would we have wanted the Soviet Union to be inside our mobile devices, inside our homes, inside our smart devices ? Of course not. There would have been much faster action. … It’s an educational process to say to American parents, “Hey, American parents, just as you fight for control of our schools, our school boards, our county councils, this is a window into our personal lives. There is nothing good coming out of it,” he added.
