With the vision of creating a state-of-the-art educational institution to generate employment-oriented, creative and culturally-educated graduates and entrepreneurs, the late valiant freedom fighter Imamul Kabir Shanto, with the help of he renowned artist and current Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Professor Mostafizul Hoque, established Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology (SMUCT), the region’s first design university.
Since its establishment in 2003, the university has been providing quality higher education in three faculties: Faculty of Design and Technology, Faculty of Management and General Studies, and Faculty of Fine and Performing Arts. The university has so far succeeded in realizing its vision by generating skilled and qualified graduates and is nationally recognized as the “Creative Destination of the Nation”.

Among the private universities in Bangladesh, Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology is the pioneer in design-based creative programs including fashion design, garment manufacturing and management technology, graphic design and multimedia, interior design and classical music and dance.
The university offers higher education to convert students into technically skilled labor. A wide range of scholarships ranging from 10 to 100% is offered to students from the first semester, depending on their SSC and HSC exam results.

To impart practical and participatory education, this institution has several sister concerns like Creative Mannequin, Fashion House, Creative Furniture, Art Gallery, Shanto-Mariam Printing and Packaging, Shanto-Mariam Center for Creative Media and a daily newspaper named “Ajker Prottasha”.
In order to encourage graduates in fashion design and technology and to become entrepreneurs, students acquire practical knowledge and expertise on creative design, the clothing industry, IT applications, etc. Thus, students have the chance to become successful entrepreneurs in fashion houses. , interior design institutions and advertising agencies.
Some notable achievements of the students of the university are as follows:
a. In the film “Rehana Maryam Noor”, which took part in the 74th Cannes Film Festival, Yasir Al Haq acted and worked both as an assistant and a casting director. At his side, Masum Mehdi was the artistic director. Both were students of the 21st promotion of the Department of Graphic Design and Multimedia.
b. The 2014 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup jersey was designed by a student from the Department of Fashion and Technology Design. Our students also received Style Guru Championship Award, Jamdani Jadughar Award, Fashion Accessories Design Award, Veet Lakme Fashion Award, Channel i Music Award, NTV Close Up 1 Award, RTV Annual Award , Bengal Protibha Bikash Prize, Aminul Islam Trust Artist Fellowship, Eurasian Watercolor Gold Medal, etc.

Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology (SMUCT) is the first creative and cultural university in the country, established in 2003. For nearly two decades, this university has been offering employment-oriented creative and cultural education in three faculties, in keeping in mind the global market demand. By maintaining the standard of all academic activities, SMUCT has been able to move forward with online education even during the COVID-19 period. After the pandemic improved, SMUCT successfully launched on-campus classes at its newly constructed permanent campus.
