McGowan & Sons, a seafood market in Valparaiso, has expanded its operations to include cooking classes, a new takeout menu, lobster rolls, wine tastings and fish fries on Fridays.
The business at 1607 Burlington Beach Road specializes in fresh seafood, including catch of the day, meal kits and freshly prepared salads. It now offers Bring Your Bubble cooking classes.
“Many of our customers loved our cooking classes that we offered before the pandemic,” said owner Leslee McGowan. “It’s a little harder now to mix people in communal seating, so we’ve developed Bring Your Bubble cooking classes. The idea is to bring your group of friends, family and neighbors and we’ll organize a cooking class with cocktails and fun.”
It also offers virtual cooking classes on Thursday evenings.
“These classes are now offered on Thursday evenings,” she said. “Customers pick up their cooking class kit on Thursdays and log on Thursday nights to learn a few things, eat great food and socialize virtually.”
McGowan & Sons is now frying walleye on Fridays and preparing a Summer Lovin’ catering menu suitable for grad open houses and summer parties, as well as a Lenten menu, Mardi Gras menu and Island Adventure menu.
He also launched wine tastings.
“The March 5 tasting will feature our friends at Dablon Winery in Michigan. Chef Rob will also be serving delicious treats as a preview of our summer menu that day,” she said. “This is a free wine tasting and a great opportunity for customers to experience some of our boutique wines while showcasing the wine experts and their knowledge.”
McGowan & Sons is open 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. It’s closed on Sundays.
