New lithium battery technology could power this ETF
TThe limitations of lithium batteries could be further minimized through rapidly expanding technology, which can only benefit the community. Global X Lithium & Battery Tech FNB (LIT).
Advances in lithium batteries will be a boon to the electric vehicle market. With the trend to put more electric vehicles (EVs) on the road, a research team in Germany may have developed groundbreaking technology.
“For electric planes to really take off and for electric cars to travel much longer distances between charges, we’re going to need batteries that hold a lot more energy without getting too heavy,” a New Atlas article said. “A team in Germany has now demonstrated a new lithium metal battery with a density well beyond the significant benchmark of 500 Wh / kg and the ability to maintain performance over hundreds of cycles. “
German researchers are working to improve efficiency. One of the hurdles is trying to remove a key bottleneck that is preventing lithium battery technology from achieving its full charging potential.
“Among the many research groups working to solve this problem, there is a team from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and the Helmholtz Institute in Ulm (HIU), who have come up with a design that largely circumvents this problem, ”adds the article.
This breakthrough will likely help LIT, which seeks to deliver investment results that generally match the price and return performance of the Solactive Global Lithium Index. The index is designed to measure the overall performance of the equity market of global companies involved in the lithium industry.
LIT gives investors:
- Efficient Access: LIT provides efficient access to a wide range of businesses involved in lithium mining, lithium refining and battery production.
- Thematic exhibition: The fund is a thematic game on lithium and battery technology.
- Outstanding performance: The fund is up around 140% last year.
Keep the world going
LIT presents investors with another growth game for long term investors. With the world relying more and more on lithium batteries, improving technology can only help LIT’s case.
“Today’s lithium-ion batteries do a tremendous job of keeping the modern world running, from electric vehicles to smartphones to laptops, but scientists see a lot of potential that could be unlocked by changing their architecture. “the New Atlas article said. . “One of the most promising possibilities is to replace the graphite used in one of the battery electrodes with pure lithium metal, a material that can hold up to 10 times more energy.”
