About the Network RAAGThrough a contract (Contract No. HPRN-CT-2001-00271) with the Universität Passau in Germany, the European Community has established the Research Training Network RAAG (Real Algebraic and Analytic Geometry). The purpose of the NetworkThe Network supports research in Real Algebraic and Analytic Geometry in Europe. One of its main objectives is the training of young researchers through active participation in research of the highest quality. Funds for the Network are supplied by the EC. The largest share is to be used for the appointment and employment of young researchers. Otherwise the Network organizes various different types of meetings, covers travel expenses and supports publishing activities and the creation of a website. For the structure and organisation of the Network: click here The Network coordinates the research efforts of the participating mathematicians. The Network supplies infrastructure for better communication and cooperation between its researchers. This Web site and the meetings programme of the Network are both major parts of this effort. The compilation of a bibliography for the field of RAAG, the collection of abstracts, and a programme of publications are other important activities in this direction. The Network's training programme for young researchers, at pre-doctoral and post-doctoral level, offers opportunities to work with leading mathematicians in the area of real geometry through visits, both short or extended, and through employment at Network centers in other countries. An open NetworkThe Network pursues a policy of openness and collaboration towards all researchers in the area of RAAG. All Network meetings are open to all mathematicians. The Network publications are intended to serve the entire world-wide community of real algebraists and geometers. The Network has cordial relations with the African Network RAGAAD (http://www.cimpa-icpam.org/Francais/Cooperations/Ragaad.html) that was organized to support the development of mathematics in Africa. The conditions in many African countries are extremely difficult and unfavorable for mathematical research. The Network RAAG, and many of its researchers, try to help and contribute through visits and the participation of RAAG researchers in RAGAAD meetings, and vice versa. | ||||||||
